March 2013: Kanpai

You've been waiting so patiently!  And finally we are able to announce our event location for March.

Join us on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM at Kanpai, 408 E. Chicago St.

Kanpai opened in 2012 with the mission to offer fresh, succulent Japanese fusion cuisine to eager palates in Milwaukee.

Get a taste of Kanpai with us as we gather for an MKEfoodies event there this month!

Our event will feature complimentary sushi and other samples from their menu available. Drink specials include 22-ounce Japanese beer or saketinis (sake-infused vodka served with a splash of lime) for $5.

We will also have gift cards to give away!

There is no charge to attend, however we do ask that you bring a $5 (or more) cash donation to benefit our non-profit of the month. This month, MKEfoodies is pleased to support the efforts of Youthaiti.

Charity of the Month

Youthaiti (based in Glendale, WI) is helping the rural people of Haiti develop sanitation, sustainable agriculture and hygiene.

Founded in 2008, Youthaiti focuses on projects of ecological sanitation, including:
  • Helping people build three styles of composting toilets
  • Developing organic gardens using recycled waste as fertilizer
  • Community hygiene education
  • Re-forestation
Everything is aimed at breaking the cycle of contamination and disease that makes so many Haitian children sick, and using human waste instead as part of a well-tailored agricultural program that increases crop productivity and the availability of healthy food.

The money we raise at our event will go to their current building campaign for the Center For Sustainable Development.
