About Us

MKEfoodies is a group of ordinary Milwaukeeans who enjoy food, drink, and socializing. More importantly, it's a collective who believes that community is vital, and that giving back makes a big difference.

Some of us are area food bloggers, food enthusiasts, food writers, and food geeks. Some of us just enjoy eating. We come from all walks of life, but we're joined by a common love for food and our city. We aim to support local, artisan food businesses, independent restaurants, and a thriving food culture in the city of Milwaukee.

We use our events to raise money for area organizations who are making a difference -- food pantries, urban gardens, food-related community organizations, and charitable organizations who fight disease, injustice and the like. Last year alone, we raised over $2,000 for area organizations through our monthly events.

In short, we are a socially conscious food-centric social network aiming to bring the “foodie” community together and make a difference through experiential, affordable events geared around food, drink and education.

The Birth of MKEfoodies
The concept for #MKEfoodies grew from series of conversations (both on Twitter and in person) among Milwaukee food bloggers who expressed a desire to establish connections with others who shared their interest in food and love for the Milwaukee dining scene. Once we realized that there was an interest, we set to work forging connections with Milwaukee area restaurants and formulating a plan for regular foodie get-togethers.

The first MKEfoodies gathering took place on December 8, 2010 at Roots Restaurant & Cellar. The event, sponsored by the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, Outpost Natural Foods, Nueske's, and Milwaukee Food Tours, attracted over 40 area foodies, who got together to network, socialize, and enjoy the best of local food in Milwaukee.

Since that time, MKEfoodies has been featured in the Milwaukee Business Journal, and online at InsideMilwaukee.com
